Testimony concludes in wind-farm lawsuit

Defense testimony wrapped up Thursday in a lawsuit against a Taylor County wind farm, ending the evidence phase and setting the stage for closing arguments Monday morning.

The two-week trial pits a group of rural Taylor County landowners against FPL Energy, an affiliate of Florida Power & Light. FPL’s Horse Hollow project, now the world’s largest with 735 megawatts of electricity generating capacity, stretches into Nolan County. Its first phase, in the southwest part of Taylor County, was targeted in the lawsuit.

Plaintiffs contend that the wind turbines’ location in their neighborhoods legally constitutes a nuisance, devaluing their property and diminishing the enjoyment of their homes.

Judge John Weeks is presiding in the 42nd District Court case, which started Dec. 4.
