Stonington to vote on cell tower, wind turbine ordinances
The proposed wind farm ordinance would not allow any large wind farms in Stonington. The ordinance would not allow any wind turbine greater than 100 feet in height and not to generate more than 50 kilowatts.

STONINGTON – Voters will be asked to approve two proposed ordinances governing cell phone towers and wind turbines at the annual Town Meeting, which will be held Monday, March 5, at 3 p.m. at the town office.
Stonington Code Enforcement Officer Judy Jenkins said the ordinances are similar to those approved in Penobscot and Blue Hill.
The proposed ordinances are “pretty generic,” she said. Cell phone towers would be limited to 190 feet in height with the ordinance stipulating proper setbacks for safety.
The proposed wind farm ordinance would not allow any large wind farms in Stonington. The ordinance would not allow any wind turbine greater than 100 feet in height and not to generate more than 50 kilowatts.
Jenkins said no one attended public hearings for either ordinance.
Before the meeting, elections will be held from 7 a.m. to noon on Monday, March 5, also at the town office.
The School Committee has two three-year seats open. Incumbent Virginia Olsen and Stephen York are on the ballot. Karen Atwell is a write-in candidate.
The Board of Selectmen has two three-year terms open with two candidates on the ballot: incumbent Evelyn Duncan and newcomer Robert Ray.
Board Chairman Christopher Betts, whose term is expiring, said he would serve if elected by write-in vote.
