Rossendale residents’ anger at turbines plans

Angry residents who are fighting plans to erect four giant wind turbines less than 350m from their homes protested at a council meeting last night.
Dozens of Weir residents descended on Rossendale Council’s Futures Park venue in Bacup last night ahead of the development control committee meeting.
There, councillors were voting on the controversial application to create four 47.5metre-high wind turbines at Scar End Farm, in Weir.
Despite receiving 340 letters of objection plan-ning bosses recommended the proposal be passed by the committee.
Retired IT director Tony Glaser, 62, of Irwell Springs, Weir, lives just metres from the proposed wind farm.
The War on Weir Wind Farm member spent time prior to the meeting leafleting the village, asking people to attend.
He said: “The committee must listen to the people who elected them.”
The application has been submitted by The Green Company (Europe) Ltd from Glasgow and incl-udes four 100kW 47.5m wind turbines and associated works.
Fellow Weir resident and retired banker Geoff Law, 72, said: “It would be totally unfair and a travesty of justice if this application for four wind turbines was approved.”
Bernard Richards, 61, also from Weir added: “I’m shocked by the planning department’s cavalier disregard for public opinion.”
At the meeting the plans were unanimously rejected.
