Senator Kelly to introduce Wind Turbines Bill

Credit:  By David Richardson, insideireland.ie 21 February 2012 ~~

Senator John Kelly will be introducing the Wind Turbines Bill 2012 on behalf of the Labour Senators’ Group during private members’ time tomorrow.

The bill will aim to restrict where wind turbines can be placed, in order to protect homeowners.

Wind turbines placed too close to residential properties may cause difficulties particularly in terms of noise, and the proposed Bill would seek to regulate that.

Senator Kelly will said: “I have been contacted by individuals all around the country wishing to offer their support for this Bill.

While we all fully support the development of wind turbines offshore and onshore as a sustainable energy source for Ireland, we must recognise that wind turbines placed too close to people’s homes may have a detrimental impact either visually, in terms of noise created, or in terms of potential health risks.

“This Bill would create a reasonable restriction on the placing of turbines too close to homes.”
