Even wind isn’t free

Credit:  www.bostonherald.com 30 January 2012 ~~

I believe Professor Habib Dagher has some federal subsidy applications in his back pocket (“Professor: Wind projects could boost Maine economy,” Jan. 23). That is what really fuels these wind turbine projects – federal dollars, not the wind. If these wind farms ever get built, the “free” wind can’t make it profitable or even break-even. They all still want annual subsidies and special rates for their product, forever.

Which state has the most wind turbines? The same state with the highest cost of electricity – California. Europe is drawing back from this folly because it has found out it’s not working. It’s laughable to read this article and see the professor holding up Europe as a positive example. Mainers should wait and see: When and if Cape Wind ever gets finished, the cost of jobs due to wind-generated electricity will be quite clear.
