Forums focus on wind farm impact

Credit:  ABC News, www.abc.net.au 24 January 2012 ~~

A Victorian Senator hopes a series of public forums he has arranged on wind farms, starting at Clare tonight, will prompt the Federal Government to act on recommendations made last year.

The seven recommendations, including changes to noise standards and better handling of complaints, result from a Senate inquiry into the social and economic impact of wind farms.

Democratic Labor Party Senator John Madigan says he has taken it upon himself to ensure the inquiry and its recommendations are not forgotten.

“Seeing as … I get so many people coming to me over this issue, that I’d attempt to give people a forum where they could contribute their side of things to the Senate recommendations,” he said.

“Then these will be tabled in the Parliament, verbatim as people put their point.

“I’ve asked numerous questions in the Senate, pertaining to wind farms etc, I didn’t get really an answer to any of my questions … and I’ve only ever asked questions so that we move forward.”
