Iberdrola wind energy project in Mexico approved

The Spanish Designated National Authority regarding Climate Change, which reports to the Ministry of the Environment, has issued a letter of approval for the La Ventosa wind farm project as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), one of the flexibility elements included in the Kyoto Protocol, which Iberdrola is developing in Mexico. The Iberdrola wind farm, which has earned accreditation as a CDM for 21 years from 1st January 2008, will have 102 megawatts (MW) of installed power. It will be located in the state of Oaxaca and will reduce annual CO2 emissions by 205,900 tons.

The La Ventosa project, which also received a letter of approval from the Mexican Designated National Authority, is in the validation phase, a process that will conclude at the end of December. Subsequently, it will be registered with the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), an entity that reports to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), foreseeably at the end of February 2007.
