Campaign against wind turbine stepped up

Credit:  Melton Times, www.meltontimes.co.uk 8 January 2012 ~~

Residents opposing an application for a 77m (252ft) wind turbine on land adjacent to the A607 Grantham road are stepping up their campaign.

They have produced 1,000 flyers to alert people living in Waltham, Thorpe Arnold and in the Melton Spinney Road area of Melton to the proposal at Hindle Farm.

Lobby group Lola (Leave Our Landscape Alone) is urging people to object to the plans, submitted by Steve Butler and Pure Renewable Energy Ltd, on the grounds of noise and the effect on the environment.

They point out the turbine, to the tip of the blade, will be more than twice the height of the the spire of St Mary’s Church in Waltham and higher than the Victoria Centre, Nottingham’s tallest building.

The applicants insist the proposal is for a single turbine, not a wind farm, and will help fulfil the area’s contribution to renewable energy targets.

To view the application (11/00677/FUL) visit www.melton.gov.uk and send your views to Denise Knipe, Melton Borough Council, Parkside, Station Approach, Burton Street, Melton Mowbray, LE13 1GH or email dknipe@melton.gov.uk

To contact Lola call Brendam and Jill Cannon-Malone on (01664) 464979 or email brendanjill@btinternet.com

The application will be considered by the council’s development committee in due course.
