Windfarm meeting

More than 100 people attended a meeting against a windfarm development in Corwen.
The meeting, held in Cynwyd on Wednesday, December 14, was organised by local action group – Stop The Exploitation of Mynydd Mynyllod (STEMM).
The group is fighting ScottishPower Renewables’ plans to put 25, 475 feet high, turbines on the ridge and slopes of Mynydd Mynyllod. Which they say is outside of the sites earmarked by the Welsh Assembly for large scale wind farms, and lies very close to many communities.
It was standing room only for the meeting held at Ysgol Maes Hyfryd, which included talks by Myfanwy Alexander – BBC Radio Wales broadcaster and writer, and Lance Mytton of Conservation of Upland Powys and the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales.
In addition, STEMM committee members Andrew Jedwell and John Broughton brought people up-to-date with the situation regarding the plan, and local residents were also given the chance to see exactly how the turbines would look from their own homes.
“The group is now planning to organise more social and fund raising events in the area,” said a spokeswoman for the group.
“The money raised will be used to pay for an experienced consultant to help fight the scheme, and this fighting fund has had a big boost thanks to the generous donations from people who attended the meeting.”
