In brief

So far: The Wind Energy Research Panel appointed by the Select Board – three pro, three con, with two alternates – has met four times, including a site visit to the proposed municipal turbine installation atop Lenox Mountain.

The latest: An initial supporter of the project, Dr. Michael Kaplan, surprised his colleagues at the panel’s most recent session by opposing the current site because of health and safety concerns affecting residents within one mile of the location.

The takeaway: Panel moderator Kenneth Fowler told The Eagle Friday that the group is flashing a yellow light, a “proceed with caution” signal, as it approaches the final sessions of its fact-finding mission.

What’s next: Alternate panelist Jim Harwood gives the Select Board a progress report on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. The Wind Energy Research Panel reconvenes Thursday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. at Town Hall. Its final report to the Select Board is due by Jan. 15.
