Economic growth, perhaps, but at what price? Are you willing to surrender the irreplaceable treasures of the Kingdom to the transient indulgences of the rich?
Will you forsake the star-spattered nights to the garish glare of light pollution? Sacrifice the beauty of the hills and fields arrayed in the wardrobe of the seasons to bright lights and condos?
Do you want to open your windows on a warm summer night to listen to the soothing call of the loon and the cricket’s serenade, only to suffer the assault of constant noise?
Instead of breathing in fresh, clean air mingled with the intoxicating scents of pine and mossy earth, would you really rather fill your lungs with exhaust?
Will you support the destruction of Vermont for the promise of “potential” economic growth?
Perhaps the timing is coincidental, but it certainly appears that we are being taken advantage of in our already difficult situation. Unjust and unfair property taxes combined with unreasonable property values, have created an environment that predatory real estate developers thrive in.
Due to the fact that folks can no longer afford their property taxes and pay other bills, they’re selling out. And guess who’s standing there, cash in hand? Yet, money cannot buy, nor can it replace heritage, community, tranquility or security.
As was reported by this paper on Friday, Nov. 17, the NVDA intends to study and determine the impact of the Ginn Development Company’s projects on local infrastructure. Since we already know how it will affect us, I urge the members of the communities of Lyndon, St. Johnsbury, Sutton, Newark, East Haven, Kirby and Burke to resist the encroachment of the developers and protect the treasures of the Kingdom.
