SOMERSET – A western Pennsylvania wind farm developer will start construction before the end of the year on what will be the single largest wind farm in Cambria and Somerset counties and possibly the state.

EverPower Wind Holdings Inc., with offices in Pittsburgh, has signed a deal with a German wind turbine company for construction of 68 units to be used in the Twin Ridges Wind Farm located in four Somerset County municipalities.

REpower Systems has had a long-running relationship with EverPower and manufactured the turbines for the Highland Wind Farm in Adams Township and the Highland North Wind Farm in Adams and Summerhill townships, Dan Lagiovane, EverPower project communications manager, said Monday.

“The signing of this deal is a significant step toward completion of this project,” Lagiovane said.

The $350 million project, announced late last year, will be built over 7,700 acres of land in Southampton, Northampton, Larimer and Greenville townships in the southeastern end of Somerset County.

Pennsylvania currently has 17 operating windmill farms with seven in Somerset County and two in Cambria County, according to the website of PennFuture, a leading environmental organization in the state.
