Residents oppose CAW turbine

It was a packed Saugeen Shores council chamber as residents came to express their concerns about the proposed CAW turbine development at the Education Centre.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says the CAW site, near a built-up residential area is not the proper place for a wind turbine.
To that end – Council has unanimously voted to ask the Ministry of Environment to review and perhaps suspend or revoke the Certificate of Approval for the wind turbine which would be only 150 meters from private homes.
Toronto lawyer Daniel Santero who was hired by affected Port Elgin resident John Mann, says the town has the right and responsibility to regulate noise and vibration from a turbine and thus can control when a wind turbine can operate.
Surrounding residents near the CAW Centre presented a petition to council urging them to revoke the building permit for the turbine foundation.
Vice-Deputy Mayor Doug Gowanlock is hoping CAW officials will re-consider their plan, in light of the public concern on setbacks and health issues although he has heard nothing from CAW officials.
