Clean Line signs agreement with Tennessee Valley Authority

Clean Line Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tennessee Valley Authority on the benefits of a proposal to build a direct current transmission line to move wind power from the Oklahoma Panhandle to Memphis, Tenn., the Houston-based company announced Tuesday.
The Plains & Eastern Clean Line project is a proposed $3.5 billion transmission line across Oklahoma and Arkansas to provide wind power to southeastern states.
Clean Line is awaiting an Oklahoma Corporation Commission decision on its application for public utility status in the state.
Corporation commission staff and an administrative law judge have recommended approving the application, but the elected commissioners have not ruled on it.
Clean Line officials said the memorandum with TVA brings the project a step closer to connecting low-cost clean energy to consumers across the region.
TVA is a government-owned corporation that provides electricity to 9 million people in seven southeastern states at prices below the national average.
TVA’s largest customer – the Memphis, Light, Gas and Water Division – recently passed a resolution supporting the development and implementation of clean energy transported to western Tennessee.
Clean Line President Michael Skelly said the support of those two entities is vital to the 800-mile power line project’s success. He thanked them for their continued support.
