Rallying cry issued over pylon plans

Credit:  Shropshire Star, www.shropshirestar.com 24 October 2011 ~~

A rallying cry has been issued to protestors fighting plans to build wind turbines and pylons across the Shropshire and Mid Wales countryside – with one councillor admitting ‘things do not look good’.

Councillor Wynne Jones, Powys county councillor for Dolforwyn, said he feared some councillors believed that after a series of successful rallies and meetings it was a case of ‘job done’.

But he said he believed the Westminster Government was fully committed to pushing forward its programme for renewable energy from windfarms and has urged his fellow councillors and protestors to do all they can to fight the plans.

National Grid wants to build hundreds of wind turbines and link them to the main electricity network with pylons. A substation will be built at either Abermule, near Newtown, or Cefn Coch, near Welshpool.
