Palmyra Township tweeks its proposed windmill ordinance

Credit:  www.925kissfm.com ~~

For more than 2 and a half hours the Palmyra Township trustees debated their proposed wind turbine ordinace lastnight and after hearing testimony from residents, experts and activists, they decided to make some changes that could very well hinder the arrival of wind energy to Lenawee county. Exelon wind and Great Lakes wind companies want to put up as many as 400 wind turbines in the area creating green energy and a financial windfall for the farmers who allow them on their land – but residents and activists say it comes with a cost. Environmental blight, increased noise and plummeting property values. The trustees reduced the maximum decibal level from 50 to 40 and now say the turbines must be at least three times the turbines length away from the property line, not the structure itself. This brings Palmyras ordinance into line with neighboring Riga township, where windmill developers ended up walking away due to the restrictions. These final changes are pending the planning commissions approval on Thursday, and then a final board vote on November 3rd.
