Almost 200 opponents to wind turbine plans

Nearly 200 objections have been raised to plans to build four wind turbines on farmland close to homes.
People living close to the planned development at Little Hoole, near Leyland, fear precious green belt land could be swallowed up by the proposals to build four turbines on a nearby farm.
Businessman Harry Sutton has submitted an application for the development at Chestnut House Farm in the village through his SA Estates company.
Cathy Roper, a member of the Protect Little Hoole group formed in opposition to the plans, said local people were concerned about the turbines’ ability to generate power.
She said: “We have been doing research into them and come to realise that they are not actually the solution to our energy needs that has been claimed.”
The application was submitted to South Ribble Council in May and had attracted 184 letters of objections and two letters of support until yesterday.
A planning report has not been drawn up by the authority’s officers who are awaiting further information from the applicant before it is sent to the authority’s planning committee for a decision.
The group of objectors are now holding monthly meetings to discuss concerns around the plans and have enlisted the support of South Ribble MP Lorraine Fullbrook.
In its application, SA Estates said Mr Sutton had farmed the land of the proposed development for “many years” and would use the energy generated by the turbines to run his own operations.
It said: “He would also like contribute power into the National Grid.”
A spokesman for SA Estates was unavailable for comment.
