Sp Fork Wind Farm in Jeopardy

The future of a proposed wind farm in Spanish Fork is in jeopardy. Key investors in Wasatch Wind pulled out when Utah lawmakers failed to reinstate a tax credit for renewable energy. Wasatch Wind spokesperson Christine Watson Mikell says Utah is getting a reputation in the energy industry for being quote “not a wind-friendly state.”

Wasatch Wind had hoped the Utah Legislature would reinstate credits that could provide 450-thousand dollars in start-up funds and have the wind farm up and running by the end of next year. She says they are now in negotiations with a new equity partner and drafting a bill to renew the credits in the 2007 General Session.

Rocky Mountain Power executive Rich Walje says his company will lobby in support of the measure. Wasatch Winds has signed an agreement to provide power to Rocky Mountain Power’s parent company PacifiCorp beginning in 2008.
