Wind farm protest face setback

Protesters fighting a controversial plan for a wind farm say they may have lost the skirmish but they intend to win the battle after learning this week that the first part of the scheme is being pushed for approval.
Nearly 2,000 have signed a petition and more than 360 others have written letters blasting moves to erect a met mast on the Dorcas Lane site near Stoke Hammond. The mast, which would be on site for five years, relays data to decide whether the area is suitable for wind turbines.
But this Thursday planning officers are recommending to Aylesbury Vale District Council’s development control committee that they agree to go ahead with the mast because it falls in line with government thinking.
Central Beds Council has already paved the way for wind power in the Leighton and Aylesbury Vale area by agreeing to a massive 450ft turbine in Heath and Reach to provide sustainable energy for more than 2,000 homes intended for east Leighton.
Malcolm Newing, chairman of the Stop Dorcas Lane Turbines action group handed over the petition to AVDC on Friday and he says that residents won’t stop fighting the plans despite the committee’s recommendation of approval for the mast.
