Protesters mobilise for wind farm inquiry

A public inquiry into an energy saving eyesore along the Weaver Valley will be heard in August.

The week-long inquiry into four 410ft high turbines will be heard at The Forest Hills Hotel, Frodsham.

Chairman of campaign group Stop Aston Wind Farm (SAW) James Morgan said: “You will see the turbines from everywhere along the valley and it will completely change the character of the area.”

Each of the four turbines will be about 410ft high, about 100ft taller than Big Ben and would even dwarf the Fiddlers Ferry Cooling Tower by the height of a house.

James added: “For now our number one priority is to organise all of the people who we want to speak at the inquiry. We have been set a deadline for the middle of July.

“We will be holding a mass meeting so that everyone in the area knows what is going on and canvas support.

“There will be public exercises around the time of the inquiry, perhaps a walk around the site to protest.”

Applicants Tegni Cymru, backed by developers Germania Wind Park, called for the inquiry after Vale Royal Borough Council rejected the project in 2006.

Campaigners believe the wind farm would cause massive damage to the landscape of the Weaver Valley, and spoil the area which is popular with walkers, riders, and cyclists.
