Villagers oppose wind farm plan

Villagers have voiced their opposition to proposals for a wind turbine farm on the Staffordshire-Shropshire border.

Energy company Nuon Renewables are considering putting nine turbines in fields between the villages of Woore and Loggerheads in Shropshire.

The firm has submitted a planning application for a test mast to assess if the wind conditions are suitable.

But local residents fear it will lead to 100m (300ft) windmills being built, destroying the peace of the area.

The planning application for the site, less than 10 miles from Stoke-on-Trent, has been submitted to North Shropshire District Council.

‘No certainties’

Graham Davy, spokesman for Nuon Renewables, said it was one of several applications for wind farms across the UK.

“It would be lucky for three or four to get through the process,” he said.

“There are lots of reasons that we come up against, as we delve deeper in to the site, that means it probably isn’t going to be suitable.

“So there certainly is no certainties at this stage for any of the sites.”

Local fruit farmer Tina Roberts said: “It would damage our business.

“A lot of people come from the Potteries particularly for the peace and quiet and tranquillity and they often say how quiet it is and they listen to the birds that we have here.”
