Appeal over Saxby Wold wind farm plan withdrawn

An appeal over a controversial planning application to build an 18 turbine wind farm in Saxby Wold has been withdrawn.
RWE npower renewables have removed their first application, which was initially proposed in 2008, from the appeal process.
Mike Parker, head of onshore development for RWE npower renewables, said: “We have decided to withdraw the appeal on the first Saxby Wold Wind Farm application.
“This will provide more time for the council to consider our second application for the site without the distraction of preparing its case for the appeal.
“We remain of the view that the Saxby Wold Wind Farm proposal is a well-planned and well-designed project. It will bring substantial economic and local benefits to the area, as well as making a significant contribution to clean energy generation, displacing the emission of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide.
“The purpose of the resubmitted application is to work with the council to achieve a successful wind farm project in a way that answers the needs and concerns of the local community, and to maximise the local benefits that will accrue from the project. Withdrawing the current appeal will allow more time for these discussions.
“We are more than happy to talk to councillors about the application and address any concerns they might have about it and wind energy in general.”
As reported the plans were originally thrown out by North Lincolnshire Planning Committee in January, 2010 due to the harmful effect the 125m high turbines would have on the northern Lincolnshire landscape.
An appeal was lodged by the developers in July and the plans for the site were resubmitted.
