If turbines come, monitor their output

Credit:  www.roanoke.com 28 September 2011 ~~

It appears that a majority of the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors are inclined to vote in favor of a wind farm on Poor Mountain. Fair enough. Majority still rules and our supervisors may vote in the manner they believe to be in the best interest of the citizens.

However, here is one thought for your consideration. Whether you support or oppose the construction of the turbines, please ask your supervisor to require Invenergy to secure the services of an independent agency to monitor the amount of energy produced and transmitted by the machines and to make periodic reports to the board.

The company will probably be delighted to prove that its claims of energy production are accurate, and the board members will have the satisfaction of knowing that they made an intelligent decision after extensive and careful investigation.

To not require monitoring may cause one to question the advisability of such a project and our leaders’ judgment. Accountability is now the issue.
