Campaigners lobby Carwyn Jones on castle visit

Credit:  Shropshire Star, www.shropshirestar.com 23 September 2011 ~~

Mr Jones AM was greeted by up to 25 protesters armed with placards fighting the plans, which could see hundreds of pylons built across Shropshire and Mid Wales, when he arrived at Powis Castle in Welshpool yesterday.

Members of the Montgomeryshire Against Pylons action group said it had been a ‘peaceful’ presence.

Mr Jones was visiting the castle in an attempt to find out more about the work being carried out in renewable energy by the National Trust in Wales.

Jonathan Wilkinson, chairman of MAP, said protesters had attended the visit in an attempt to get their voices heard.

Campaigners have been calling on the Welsh Assembly to urgently review its winfarm policy, known as TAN 8, in an attempt to stop hundreds of wind turbines, pylons and a substation from being built in parts of Shropshire and Mid Wales.
