Council to hold two hearings on wind turbines

The City Council will hold two public hearings, including one before the elections, on the proposed wind turbine on Winter Island, Councilor at Large Steven Pinto said Thursday night.

Pinto said he and Councilor at Large Joan Lovely are working on scheduling the public hearings. No date has been set, but Pinto expects it to be “soon.”

Pinto said the issue is very complex and he wants to hold the hearings at the Bentley School to give the council members a chance to learn all the details about the proposed wind turbine. He said he would invite the wind turbine manufacturers to make presentations at the hearings.

The Renewable Energy Commission has held one public hearing on the wind turbine, which generated considerable support and opposition for the proposed Winter Island wind turbine.

The Salem Alliance of Neighborhoods has also scheduled a public meeting on the wind turbine for Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Beverly Cooperative Bank at 73 Lafayette Street.
