Fears new wind farm rules may jeopardise projects

The State Opposition fears new wind farm planning guidelines will affect projects that have already received planning approval.

Opposition planning spokesman, Brian Tee, says 28 projects that need to make minor changes to their planning applications will be forced to meet the new standard.

The Government introduced strict new rules last month that give residents the power to block wind farm construction within two kilometres of their houses.

Mr Tee says the rules could spell the end of some projects about to start construction.

“They fall over because there is no flexibility in the way this Government is approaching wind farms,” he said.

“And the victims are going to be farms who are relying on that rent and local communities who are reliant on those jobs.”

Mr Tee says the rules should not apply to projects that have already been approved.
