Citizens Alliance for Responsible Renewable Energy filed an appeal on special land use permits for meteorological towers approved by the Mason County Planning Commission Aug. 16.

Consumers Energy had requested seven special land use permits for five temporary and two permanent meteorological towers to collect data for Consumers’ planned wind farm in Riverton and Summit townships.

After a public hearing on the matter Aug. 16, the planning commission approved the special land use applications with some conditions, including getting appropriate permits for the towers and a performance guarantee for their removal.

CARRE, is a non-profit organization funded by its members, based its appeal on several points.

A public hearing on the met tower appeal is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Mason County Courthouse, 304 E. Ludington Ave., in Ludington.
