Skegness lifeboat rescues injured windfarm worker

Lifeboat crews have rescued a wind farm worker who suffered an injury off the Lincolnshire coast.

The Skegness-based Lincolnshire Poacher was launched at about 14:00 BST after reports a man had suffered a head injury.

The man was brought back to shore and transferred to hospital for treatment.

At about the same time, the inshore lifeboat had to deal with two people who were stranded on an inflatable near Ingoldmells Point.

John Irving, a RNLI coxswain at Skegness, said: “For about an hour things got a bit crazy at the station.

“The call came in for the all-weather lifeboat to assist a man who was in a distressed state on one of the work boats at the wind farm.

“He had cut his head quite badly and needed hospital treatment.

“At the same time the inshore lifeboat received another report of an inflatable in trouble near Ingoldmells Point.

“It’s a perennial thing I’m afraid – when the sun comes out so do the inflatables.”

Mr Irving said it had so far been quiet for lifeguards this year because a run of northerly winds had kept people off the beaches.

He added: “But as soon as the wind comes off the land, the sun comes out and it’s a warm day, then the inflatables reappear.”
