Commission should reject New Generation plan

Credit:  Bourne Courier, www.wickedlocal.com 10 August 2011 ~~

After reading all the many wind turbine articles in our newspapers, two words come to my mind regarding this New Generation Wind project, PUBLIC NUISANCE.

I was disappointed that quoted comments from our town code-enforcement representatives only addressed the legality of the applicant’s proposal. Clearly these one-sided statements highlight the fact that these regulators appear to have forgotten the primary mission of zoning and planning – to protect the neighborhoods. Our town professionals are quick to confirm that this proposal meets all town regulations but appear reluctant to quantify the negative financial impact on the abutters’ real estate values. Based upon the newspaper columns I have read, the only reason these developers conform to zoning regulations is the fact that they did an “end-run” and filed an “eleventh-hour subdivision plan” before the newly voted wind zoning bylaw went into affect. Good lawyering, but for whom? We, the Bourne residents, get no quantifiable benefits from these generating towers. Are you going to pay less for electricity? I’m not. This proposed green-energy project is strictly a for-profit proposal that enables a few people to make bundles of money. Is this a “fair and balanced” local development effort? I don’t think so. Does it result in a “win-win” situation for everyone? Not really. I would urge the Cape Cod Commission subcommittee reviewing this proposal to look at the commission’s mission statement. When I read about their purpose, it reflects one simple tenant, “DO NO HARM”. This wind turbine proposal looks pretty cut-throat to me.
