Alfa Wind suspends wind farm project because of migrating birds

A company that plans to build a wind farm near the village of Dunajská Lužná, just ten kilometers from Bratislava, has announced it is temporarily suspending all development in the area. The project manager of Alfa Wind, s.r.o., Matej Hlôška, said the company intends to wait for a new Environmental Impact Assessment and wind measurement readings. One of the reasons for the suspension is the increased presence of migrating birds in the area of the planned wind park.
The mayor of Dunajská Lužná, Ladislav Cingel, confirmed to the SITA newswire that the planned wind farm is to be located near the protected natural area of Dunajské Luhy, an area known for migrating birds. Alfa Wind, s.r.o. said it selected the location based on its wind potential, technical prerequisites for connection to the national power grid and also taking into consideration nature conservation areas, protected landscape and consultations with the mayors of the municipalities concerned. The company had originally planned to start construction of the park in September, with a planned completion date in August next year. The wind park, with eighteen two-megawatt wind turbines, should start generating electricity a month after completion. SITA
