New group to oppose further windfarms

A working group has been established by Powys County Council to maintain pressure on the government to change its windfarm policy.

Councillor Graham Brown said at a full council meeting last Thursday that following the momentous decision in Welshpool on June 29 to call for a review of the government’s TAN 8 renewable energy policy, he felt it was important to move to the next stage and progress the issue.

“The most logical way of moving us forward is to have a cross-party working group to work with officers to develop a strategy for Powys,” said Councillor Brown.

He said he did not think there had ever been public support and attendance like there was at Welshpool that day, and he added it was incumbent that the council supports the residents of Powys by actively pursuing the issue.

Members agreed to set up an 11-strong cross-party group.
