County panel hears wind project testimony

BOURNE – The Cape Cod Commission subcommittee tasked with reviewing the proposed four-turbine New Generation Wind project heard nearly three hours of testimony from local residents and others Wednesday night.

Similar to the previous public hearings on the project, the panel heard mostly negative testimony from residents with homes near the proposed turbines. But this time, the subcommittee also heard from supporters of the project, who praised New Generation Wind backers Cape Cod Aggregates and the Panhandle Trust for moving forward on a renewable energy project that could benefit the town and the region.

The meeting was continued to 5 p.m. on Aug. 1, when a final public hearing on the project will be held at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School’s cafeteria.

Written testimony will be accepted through Aug. 9, when the public comment period on the project closes. All written testimony for the project is available at www.capecodcommission.org/newgeneration.

The subcommittee will make a recommendation before the project heads to the full Cape Cod Commission for a final decision.
