Wind turbine plan blows ill wind villagers say

A plan to erect a 284ft wind turbine in Benington has been met with opposition by residents.

The proposals to install a turbine by High Elms Lane will be formally opposed, an action group in the village said.

The application by farmer Andrew Bott was submitted to East Herts Council on Tuesday.

A previous attempt to get three turbines installed at his farm was thrown out by a planning inspector last year after much local opposition by the Stop Benington Wind Farm Action Group (SBWFAG). The inspector said the wind farm would impact negatively on nearby listed buildings and Green Belt land.

The new turbine is not on Green Belt and is 100 feet smaller than the originally planned structures.

“There will be a high amount of opposition,” Rowan O’Duffy of SBWFAG said. “We are waiting to see the proposals and we will take the necessary action based on our response to that.”

The Comet tried contacting Mr Bott for a comment but he was unavailable.
