Wind committee notes concerns of conflict in Sumner

SUMNER – Selectmen listened Wednesday night as Wind Ordinance Committee Chairman Dan Perron aired his distress over the schism developing within his subcommittees and the main Wind Ordinance Planning Committee, Administrative Assistant Cyndy Norton said.
Perron told selectmen that he did not attend the meeting on Sunday with wind expert Richard James as it was a citizen-called meeting and not an official meeting.
Perron said the committee wasn’t sure how involved the selectmen should be in forming the ordinance. Selectman Mark Silber told Perron that the selectmen were the governing body for Sumner and have always been involved in writing ordinances.
According to Norton’s notes, Selectman Maryann Haxton asked Perron how they could assist in getting all the committees to cooperate. The consensus of all present was that the subcommittees needed to work within the full committee.
Selectman Glenn Hinckley said he would discuss having a public meeting with contractors Clear Wind and the Wind Ordinance Committee on Aug. 18.
In other news, Norton said that notices had been sent to two vacant lot owners who have properties that have collected trash since they were abandoned. The town has contracted Steve and Sons to clean up the places for $1,000.
There will be a hearing on the shoreland zoning map at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. The ordinance, which includes the maps, was tabled at the last annual meeting and is on the warrant again for the Aug. 8 annual meeting for consideration by the town.
Tri-Town Ambulance and Rescue representatives Lee Berry and Susan Litchfield from Sumner and Tri-Town Assistant Chief John Hamel spoke with the selectmen on continued coverage for Sumner.
The warrant on the annual town meeting will ask the people to vote on one of three options for ambulance service.
One option will be to stay with the present coverage of Buckfield and Tri-Town.
Another option will be to go with Buckfield Rescue, and the other option will be to go with PACE and Buckfield.
This year’s annual town meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 will be preceded by a refreshment time. The light refreshments take the place of the usual potluck supper.
