Council’s U-turn on turbine cash

Calverton Parish Council has decided not to pay money directly to an anti-wind turbine campaign group.

The Post reported last week that a row broke out over the plan to give £500 to Woodborough And Calverton Against Turbines (Wacat).

Its cabinet had recommended the payment, but a full council meeting last Tuesday decided instead to pay the money towards a photo montage showing what the wind turbine would look like from Calverton Conservation Area.

Parish councillor Emily Quilty said: “The montage provides information on which material planning considerations could be formulated.

“The information will be there for all residents, regardless of their position on the wind turbines.”

Farmer John Charles-Jones has asked Gedling Borough Council for permission to build a 66.5-metre wind turbine at Woodborough Park Farm.
