New twist in turbine fight

Campaigners fighting plans for a controversial wind farm near Hunmanby have received a boost after a similar development along the coast was rejected.

The No To Wolds Wind Farm Group successfully stopped the building of a 200ft temporary wind monitoring mast by Wind Energy Direct Ltd near Sewerby last week.

The group have been integral in fighting an 80ft monitoring mast on the outskirts of Hunmanby from Banks Renewables.

After taking their fight to Scarborough Town Hall, the plans were turned down by Scarborough Council officials April.

However, Banks Renewables – which hopes to build up to 14 turbines in the South Dale area – have appealed against the decision, and if overturned, could see the erection of the mast later this year.

A spokesman for Banks said the mast would be unobtrusive and hoped council planners would recognise the company’s stance in the appeal.
