Company’s bid for two 130m wind turbines on Eye airfield is withdrawn

An application for the construction of two 130-metre wind turbines on Eye Airfield has been withdrawn.

Eye Wind Power Ltd. joined the Roy Humphrey Group in submitting plans for two turbines – each – to be placed around or on the airfield, but the former has been forced into “temporarily” shelving their plans after an objection was raised by the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

But Eye Wind Power Ltd. managing director Andy Hilton insists that the death knell has by no means sounded for his company’s bid just yet.

He said: “Due to the MOD changing their policy on wind turbines, they are now refusing to countenance every project of that nature.

“There’s no issue with our bid specifically, and there have been no other objections from anyone else.

“And, because our bid has already by default been approved as the Roy Humphrey application presupposed that ours would be going up too, we’re confident that we’ll resubmit the plans for the next [district council] committee meeting in August.”

But a spokesman for the MOD, confirming and explaining the objection, said: “We were consulted on the application and decided to object due to the potential impact on air traffic at RAF Honington.”
