Wind farm trucks blamed for road damage

Credit:  ABC Western Victoria, www.abc.net.au 8 July 2011 ~~

A Southern Grampians councillor, Marcus Renstch, says several roads near Penshurst have deteriorated dangerously, because of trucks supplying the Macarthur wind farm.

The trucks are travelling a designated route to carry building materials to the 140-turbine farm.

Cr Rentsch says recent wet weather means some of the road surfaces are crumbling under the weight of the trucks.

He says the road between Penshurst and Macarthur is particularly bad.

“It’s getting to the stage where I believe that road may have to close if they can’t keep up with the patching and the maintenance, because it is absolutely dangerous in some of the areas,” he said.

“It’s just an accident waiting to happen.

“I couldn’t believe how certain sections have just crumbled under the weight of the trucks, especially at this time of year when it’s so wet.”
