Carlock plans to grow where wind farm would go

The village president of Carlock said a company’s plans to build a nearby wind farm are at odds with village plans to grow.

Invenergy Inc. wants to build about 25 turbines in the land surrounding Carlock, but the village has been working on an expansion plan in the area for the last three years.

The village would like to buy and develop land in the same location where the turbines are planned to go.

“Our growth potential is north and west,” Carlock Village Pres. Bradley Baer said. “That’s where the open land is, that’s where the community used to be, people like to live on that hillside. That’s where growth will be.”

Invenergy has submited a special-use permit application to McLean County.

The county’s zoning board of appeals will make a recommendation on the fate of the application to the full county board next month.
