Damage to wind turbines under investigation in Lakeshore

Credit:  Dalson Chen | Published Apr 13, 2023 | windsorstar.com ~~

Lakeshore OPP are asking the public to report anything about vandalism to wind turbines in the area.

According to provincial police, Lakeshore detachment officers are investigating damaged wind turbines at two different locations.

The first case was reported on April 4. The damage was evident on the transformer of the wind turbine – a component which is typically located on the ground near the tower.

The second incident was reported on Wednesday. Workers attending a different wind turbine site noticed damage to the base of the tower structure.

OPP warn that the consequences of vandalism to wind turbines is more than financial. Individuals who engage in such acts risk injury or death by electric shock, fire, or explosion.

Damage to the towers also endangers the public.

Lakeshore OPP encourage members of the community to look out for suspicious activity around wind turbine sites, and to alert police immediately if such activity is spotted.

Any information recorded about these incidents can also be helpful.

To speak to OPP investigators, call 1-888-310-1122.

Anonymous tips can be made via Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 or www.catchcrooks.com.
