Inverell Council worried about ‘2km Rule’

Credit:  ABC News, www.abc.net.au 5 July 2011 ~~

Inverell Shire Council says it hopes the Department of Planning takes seriously its comprehensive submission regarding the proposed White Rock Wind Farm.

The Council is not the Consent Authority, but has made a number of suggestions in relation to noise, communication signals, location, and infrastructure upgrades.

The Mayor, Barry Johnston, says Council wants wind turbines to be built at least two-kilometres away from existing, or proposed, homes.

The two-kilometre rule is supported by neighbouring Glen Innes Severn Council.

Barry Johnston says Inverell Shire Council holds real concerns about the proposal.

“In fact, in the Environmental Assessment document that was made available by the Department of Planning for us to consider, there was at least one site where that distance was much less than two-kilometres,” he said.

“We’ve suggested that this site be moved to a less intrusive site for the residents there.”
