There’s now a ‘deep distrust’ of companies involved in Buffalo Plains wind farm project

I listened to the proceedings of the meetings County council held on June 15 concerning the land-use bylaw amendments to rezone land, to rural general from urban fringe, to allow two wind turbines to be built as part of the Buffalo Plains wind farm near Lomond.
Article content

There seemed to be some confusion as to how the County has ended up in this situation and now neither council or administration want their fingerprints to appear on the rezone because of an Alberta Utilities Commission decision to approve turbines in fringe areas.

Lomond Opposing Wind Projects (LOWP) members believe any confusion can easily be cleared up with the following explanations:

Vulcan County supported ABO/Buffalo Plains wind farm throughout the last four years with practically everything representatives of those corporations wanted.
Vulcan County consistently favoured ABO/Buffalo Plains wind farm over Division 7 residents and property owners who were not in support of the project.

LOWP members still have many questions, especially how did some of the benefits given to the Buffalo Plains wind farm really help county residents and taxpayers, especially Division 7?

The events which transpired during the ABO/Buffalo Plains wind farm lobby efforts of Vulcan County have culminated in a deep distrust of the companies and Vulcan County councillors and administration.

All signatories of this letter (171 individuals and five businesses) are against the redesignation of a portion of the urban fringe to rural general for the purpose of developing a portion of BPWF. We request the applications be denied.
