Fremont County Board of Supervisors meeting summaries

Following are summaries of recent Fremont County Board of Supervisors meetings, taken from the meeting minutes:

Wednesday, Jan. 26: The board heard a presentation from Mark Crowl and Isaac Lamppa with Invenergy regarding a proposed wind turbine project in Fremont and Page counties. More than 270 landowners are signed up for the project, which is reported to be bringing $2 million per year in property taxes. The project will also generate construction jobs and add 10 full-time positions in the area. Building permits may be submitted in about a month, and the project is set to begin operation by the end of 2023.

Wednesday, Jan. 19: The board appointed the following members to the Eminent Doman Compensation Commission for 2022: Bankers Chris Johnson, Kent Claiborne, Phil Worcester, Grant Schaaf, Cindy Gregg, Jay Longinaker; realtors Denise Hammer, Cory Gordon, Dan Holliman, Nancy Vanatta, Jenna Gregory, Janell McIntyre, Doug Shirley; property owners Pat Sheldon, Rita Lorimor, Joni Hickey, Twila Larson, Gerald Head, James D. Doyle; and farmers John Askew, Bob Benton, H. Francis Lorimor, Dave Roberts, Sara Holt, Steve Lorimor, and Justin Ewalt. Appointed Bill Boyd to the Civil Service Commission for a two-year term. Appointed Peter Johnson to the Civil Service Commission for a four-year term.

Wednesday, Jan. 12: The board declared Fremont County to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary County and passed a resolution affirming the same. Approved hiring Tammie Langfelt as a dispatcher for the Fremont County Sheriff ’s Office.

Monday, Jan. 3: The board called a special 2022 reorganizational meeting. Randy Hickey was appointed board chair and Chris Clark was appointed board vicechair. The 2022 committee appointments are: Dustin Sheldon: Welcome Center Board, West Central Development, Landfill Commission, Local Emergency Response, Southwest Iowa Juvenile Emergency Services Board, Loess Hills Alliance, and Safety Committee; Randy Hickey: DECAT Board, DHS Service Advisory Board, Emergency Management Commission, Waubonsie Mental Health, Regional Planning Affiliate Board, Board of Health, Corner Counties Early Childhood, Workforce Development, and REAP Commission; Chris Clark: Tourism Board, Loess Hills Authority, Hungry Canyons Authority, Hungry Canyons Alliance, Southwest Iowa Transit, Southwest Iowa Planning Council, Fourth Judicial 28E Board, and Zion Recovery Board, SCIA, and Local Emergency Response. All three supervisors were appointed to the E911 Board with one vote. Regular weekly Board of Supervisors meetings will take begin at 9 a.m. Wednesdays. The Fremont-Mills Leader-Beacon and the Hamburg Reporter will be the county’s official newspapers.
