Display Viking’s true impact

Diagrams and figures on paper from Viking’s draft plans of the proposed Lang Kames project may not mean a great deal to most people, and might lead to the possibility of future dissimulation and dispute about the project’s true impact on the landscape and its residents.

For that reason, I request that part of Viking’s exposition of its proposed wind turbine farm should include accurate 1/1000th-scale models of the project, that would include all land on a radius one mile beyond Aith or Vidlin (whichever is the further point from the proposed centre of the site).

I also request that no detail (no matter how apparently trivial) should be omitted without good (and clearly-stated) reason.

The models should then be put on display in the museum, the library and the Town Hall (space permitting) and be included in a properly-publicised touring presentation round all of Shetland’s public halls.

In this way, no one will be able to complain in the future about having missed seeing them, or having misunderstood the implications of the proposed development.

3D data should also be generated and published on Google Earth, so that those with access to the internet can see exactly what’s being proposed; and so be given the chance to respond and raise any concerns that they may have in good time.

I call on Viking Energy to respond to this request; and to state their reasons in print for not doing so, should they decline.

Regards,

Philip Andrews
Unst.
