Campaigners fighting against a controversial windfarm have launched a fundraising appeal to support their case.
The Save Mochrum Fell group has issued a rallying cry as it bids to protect what it describes as a “precious and unique landscape” at a public inquiry.
Falck Renewables has appealed to the Scottish Government for permission to build seven turbines at Mochrum Fell near Corsock as the council didn’t make a decision within the required timeframe.
The inquiry is set to take place next year.
Group founders Trevor and Elaine Procter said: “The application has gone to appeal for non-determination by Dumfries and Galloway Council who have not provided a formal response due to their workload, so it is now left to the Help Save Mochrum Fell group, as a third party, to represent the local community at the appeal. Falck has limitless money and plenty of experts, so the contest is very unequal.
“We have secured the services of a QC who is prepared to work at discounted rates, along with a consultant planner and a consultant landscape architect.
“Even at these rates we will need to raise £10,000-£15,000 by February.”
Falck originally wanted to build eight turbines as tall on 125m on the site and planning officials recommended approval in 2015.
However, more than 600 people objected to the proposal and the planning applications committee rejected the proposal – only for the Scottish Government to overturn the appeal on decision.
Last year, they applied for seven taller turbines and in August this year appealed to the Scottish Government after the council failed to make a decision, citing “demands on workload” as the reason for the lack of comments from their landscape architect
It’s one of six windfarm applications in the Glenkens to have been appealed to the Scottish Government for such a reason since August, 2020.
The group is urging people to help with the cost of experts and also to offer any expertise they themselves may have – such as photography or map making.
