A pressure group is urging people to make their feelings known on plans for a new Glenkens windfarm which it is claimed claimed will “wreck the landscape for decades to come”.
Today is the deadline for people giving their views on Energiekontor’s proposal for nine 200m-tall turbines at Garcrogo near Corsock.
And the Save Our Hills group wants people to object to the plans.
Spokesman Iain Milligan said: “If people want to make their feelings known about these proposals then today’s the day to do it.
“Once the deadline passes there will be no more opportunities to tell the council about the impact these enormous turbines will have on the local area.
“The whole point of these consultation phases is so decision-makers can gather as much information about local opinion as possible.
“Our campaign group believes Dumfries and Galloway is at saturation point when it comes to onshore windfarm development.
“We understand the need to move to cleaner energy generation but there is a limit to the cost to our unique landscape and that limit has long since been reached.
“Our view is that this proposed windfarm will wreck the landscape for decades to come and we know many local people and businesses share that fear.
“That’s why it’s so important to formally notify the local authority of your opinion.
“This can be done best by email to planning@dumgal.gov.uk quoting reference 21/0371/FUL, and those doing so must leave their name and address.”
Energiekontor, which is already involved in a number of other Stewartry windfarm developments, has claimed the scheme represents an investment of more than £60 million.
