Based on actual events, this novel describes the catastrophic effect of an unwanted wind farm on the small moorland town of Cloughgreen.

Willie Dee is in favour of wind farms. He already lives near one. But when plans for another 78-turbine site are announced, he is not so sure. A journalist friend makes alarming discoveries on teh Net. And Willie and his wife, Verity, help the townspeaple fight the proposals.

But they are up against powerful forces. A Big State government, a Big Wind .obby and Big Money developers. The wind farm is pushed through. And the journalist’s findings take on an apocalyptic feel as the wind farm makes its presence felt. The inexorable climax – the result of greed, skulduggery and uncaring dogma – is deeply shocking.

The Crosses of Aiolos is a cry from the heart on behalf of Britain’s last wild places. It reveals the true cost of oshore wind farms to our small, crowded island. And it portends a farewell to skylarks and solitude.

But while the mice in the field are listening to the Universe, and moving in the body of nature, where every living cell is sacred to every other, and all are interdependent, the housing speculator is peering at the field through a visor, and behind him stands the whole army of madmen’s ideas. —Ted Hughes
